Unexpected Pt.2

“Was that really necessary?” Dalfrey grimaced, scratching the inside of his left ear with the tip of his pinky finger. The bat-winged demon flicked whatever skin and wax he scratched off into the corner of the room.

“Uh, yes!” Glenda snapped at him. Her temper reflected from the fiery red color that was radiating off her face. She took in a deep inhale and screamed at the top of her lungs again, leaving her eyes open to glare at him. He covered his pointy ears with both hands and waited until she was done blasting her voice box out to remove them.

“What the hell is your problem!” He shouted at her, “Scream one more time and I am jamming that phone into your mouth.”

“You’re my problem!” Glenda snapped at him, “You are here at the worst possible time! I am having nothing to do with what the boss wants until AFTER I am finished with class today. So for now, go away!” The red-head woman stood up from her bed and dashed into her walk-in closet. She was going to be running late for class, which also happened to be exam day, and she wasn’t going to let her boss’s assistant get in her way.

“Oh, I didn’t know you were still going to school for a Bachelor’s Degree in Debt.” Dalfrey stood up from the window and crossed his wings over his shoulders like a black, leathery cloak.

“Bachelor’s in Journalism!” Glenda shouted from the closet, hustling to get her undershirt on. The demon chuckled and shook his head a bit.

“No matter what degree you get, you’ll be more educated on debt than you will anything else.”

“Okay there, Mr. Know-It-All. Thanks for that bit of info.” She grumbled and then slipped on her hoodie before stepping back out of her room. She walked up to the demon and stared up into his glowing yellow eyes. He was easily a foot and a half taller, and she was 5’8.”

“I’m going to need you to come back later. Much later.” She commanded, “There is an exam that is worth twenty-percent of my grade and I really need to pass it with flying colors, or I will have to take this awful class again.”

“Which one is that? How To Get Into More Debt 102?” Dalfrey quipped. Glenda slapped him on the chest and instantly regretted it. Hitting his chest was like slapping a concrete wall. Her hand throbbed and she cradled it against her chest.

“Someone is being quite rebellious today. You do realize you can’t postpone or turn down an assignment, correct?” The gargoyle-looking demon crossed his arms and straightened his posture, making himself appear even taller.

“I don’t have time to argue with you. I have to get going.” She spun on her heels and stomped across the room to grab her bag. Throwing the strap over her shoulder, she grabbed the doorknob to her bedroom door, and then looked back at Dalfrey. He was not amused by her.

“I’m sure Archangel Michael will understand.” She told him, and proceeded to open the door. Right as she was about to take a step, she recognized the dark gray chest she had slapped earlier and looked up to find Dalfrey standing between her and the hallway. He had a hard smile on his face.

“You and that teleportation of yours,” Glenda scoffed, growing angry by the second, “Move!”

“We are.” The bat-winged demon said, and before she could ask him by what he meant, he grabbed her by the shoulders with his long pointy claws. Everything around them became a stretched blur of colors. She felt like she was being dropped down in an elevator with a slight wind blowing up from the ground.  When their surrounding came back into focus, he let her go and she took a look around.

Dalfrey and Glenda were in a cream-colored bedroom with a small child’s bed, matching dresser set, and a toy chest. She took a side step to glance out the window and saw they were no longer in the city. They were in a house out in the countryside.

“What the hell!” She yelled at him and tried to shove him. Again, he was a statue to her attack. “What is so important for me to be here right now?”

“Calm down, you angry woman. It’s because of that right over there,” Dalfrey pointed to the bed.

It was then Glenda realized that there was a large porcelain doll sitting in front of the child-size pillow. It had penetrating blue eyes, rosy red cheeks, and tight long, brown curls that reached down to its waist over a lacy dress. Then the neck made a cracking, sliding noise as it noticed the tall demon and red-head woman in the room.

“Mama?”
